Less than meets the eye

"Transformers" is still raking in dough at a cineplex near you. Too bad the terrific first half gives way to a stupefying finale.

It is a summer blockbuster; it is a MICHAEL BAY summer blockbuster. Intelligent school-vacation action films mostly went the way of the ivory-billed woodpecker after "Jaws."
I rather liked it as a popcorn flick; an "ID4" for the 00s.
