Go, 'Speed Racer'

Remaking classic cartoons sounded silly to me - then I saw the grosses for "Alvin & The Chipmunks" and I shut my trap.

So consider this news about the upcoming "Speed Racer" film free of any snark.

The movie, from The Wachowski Brothers ("The Matrix"), will be released simultaneously in traditional and IMAX theaters on May 9. "This movie and IMAX are made for each other," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment in a statement.

But are audiences ready to fully embrace the IMAX format for traditional film releases? Could IMAX succeed where 3-D failed? If television sets get any bigger, people are gonna need an extra incentive to leave the house for movie night. IMAX could be the ticket.

I was skeptical about this one, but after seeing a trailer, it looked pretty good. I'd see this in IMAX, looked cool in the traditional format. Thanks for the heads up!
