'Street' injustice

Another day, another movie about dirty cops. Ho hum.

"Street Kings," the new police drama starring Keanu Reeves, gets its hands dirty with some pretty lax law enforcers. Reeves plays the king of the crooked cops, a detective who doesn't mind planting evidence as long as it cleans up the streets. But who's gonna tidy up his soul?

My Washington Times review dissects the film's descent into incoherence. It's a shame, since Reeves isn't bad in this cop thriller, and the fine supporting cast also deserves better.

This story had potential, and such a great cast. Too bad the execution was so poor. I cringed every time Whitaker opened his mouth, such a shame.

Whitaker is working a lot these days - with mixed results. He was terrific in a small role in "The Great Debaters," but here his character doesn't make much sense.

Good review. I was impressed that Keanu simply wasn't terrible.

They really didn't spare the cop cliches, though. All that alcoholism stuff didn't go anywhere.

On the other hand, "Wash your mouth out with buckshot," was such a good line that I texted it to several friends. It's the kind of thing I hope I can remember to say the next time I get in a vicious argument with someone I don't like.

The dialogue in "Street Kings" veered from excellent to awful, other much more of the latter. And Keanu has set the acting bar pretty low for himself with his past performances.
