Will Beck blaze a trail for righty filmmakers?
Movie patrons will have a new option at their local cineplex tonight. They can line up for “Kung Fu Panda,” “Iron Man” … or check out Glenn Beck’s live one-man show beamed into their movie house.
“Beck ‘08 - Live” is being simulcast on more than 320 screens across the nation for one night only. It’s a rare chance to hear right of center view points at the theater. But is Beck blazing a trail for other conservative talkers, or even filmmakers, to follow, or is this just a one-time only event sparked by Beck’s fan base?
I asked those questions to a few folks for my new Washington Times story in today’s edition. The answers I got surprised me. See what you think.

It’s not his views that would make me steer clear of this … it’s his irritating voice … I’d much rather watch Rush than this bozo.

He tends to polarize … but his fan base is massive (third most listened to talker, I believe.)
It’s funny … when you think of the biggest radio stars — Rush, Howard, etc. you rarely think of their voice first …

I just got home from seeing the show in Houston. The theater was packed. The only empty seats were in the front row. Our theater group clapped and cheered along with the audience in Dallas.
I’d definitely go back. Glenn said on the radio show today that he’s interested in distributing documentaries this way.

Lezlie,
Thanks for the update … we’ll have to see if other theaters were similarly packed. It would be great if it paved the way for a conservative (but fair) doc filmmaker to rise up.

[...] Beck’s experiment succeeds, other radio personalities could go the same route. Or it could convince at least one movie [...]

You think Glenn Beck maybe interested in helping to market/distribute the only 35-mm full feature narrative pro Vietnam veteran action war drama called “FORGOTTEN HEROES” How do I let him know, that as the filmmaker of this only film that honors all of our vets, that I am donating 25% of all DVD sales to The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial Fund. I feel what Beck is trying to do is a wonderful idea for filmmakers with conservative values. There are not to many films out there being made by filmmakers who are conservatives. Documentaries are not films, they have in fighting the Hollywood liberal establishment who blackballs any actor, director, producer, and filmmaker that makes a pro American film. Recently, there have been three conservative film festivals, blogs and political networking groups that won’t promote any film made by a conservative unless that filmmaker has a name. I find that independent filmmakers like myself, are on our own to market our films directly to the conservative public or as I like to call them, ‘Rush Limbaugh’s Audience’ If anyone wants to know more about my film, you can e-mail me by clicking my name. I am only going to post on Christian’s site once, since I have been censored off Libertas and accused of ‘pimping’ my pro vietnam, pro American film on a conservative film blog. I intended to post a notice on every conservative blog out there until someone out there listens to me. I am a member of a conservative networking group here in Hollywood. I am the only member with a real film, there are 80 or so members and when I finally got my DVDs made, I sold only four. For four years all I heard was that we must all stick together and support conservative filmmakers. They showed they support by buying and asking me for comps.
All I want to do is to inform all conservative bloggers that blog all over these conservative blogs, that there is a 35-mm pro Vietnam film out there that says what everyone that blogs has been talking about for years. I intend to tell the truth of how Hollywood stopped this film and how I have been treated by some in the conservative side of this cultural war we find ourselves in.
I just want to thank Christian at this time for letting me post a shameless plug of my film on his site. I still will send you that info I told you about. I started a new job and I have been swamped this past week. - Jack Marino
